Twisters beat Shiners in familiar meeting of boys soccer coaches

Oldenburg Boys Soccer head coach Kenny Getz welcomed a former assistant back to OA Monday as Rob Kelnhofer brought his Rising Sun Shiners to town.  The teacher’s team beat the pupil’s squad 7-1.

“An old friend of mine, coach Rob Kelnhofer, was my assistant years ago when his son played for me,” recalled Getz.  “Rob’s Shiners are undermanned this year with only 15 rostered players, only 11 of which played against us.”

OA assistant coach Mike Wilhelm noted the Twisters had a 6-0 advantage at intermission.

Oldenburg’s Josh Newman scored in period one at 34:41 on a shot through the 18.  Thomas Lohmueller scored at 33:22 on a shot in the 18.  Nick Folop struck at 31:13 on a head shot assisted by a Jacob Cornelius’ corner kick.  Lohmueller got his second netter at 30:03 on a shot in the 6-yard box assisted by a Michael Weisbrod cross.  Jacob Hilbert followed on a shot from the top of the 18 assisted by a Newman pass. Then Newman made his second goal at 6:57 after a takeaway and shot in the 18.

In the second half, the Twisters Joe Suttman scored at 17:04 on a shot in the 18 assisted by Eric Cornelius. Rising Sun scored its only goal at 28:00 on a 25-yard shot.

“It was nice to see some balls go into the back of the net,” said Getz. “We left some easy ones out there though. We didn’t have the defensive game we had on Saturday but were good enough to come out with the win.  We played everyone on the roster which helps as we are two games into our five games in and eight-day stretch.”

Stats from Oldenburg assistant coach Mike Wilhelm:

The Twisters had 24 shots with 11 on goal, 5 offsides, 6 fouls, 2 corners, 2 handballs, 4 keeper saves for Isaiah Waggoner and 2 keeper saves for Alex Matacia.

The Shiners had 19 shots with 7 on goal, 1 offside, 2 fouls, 7 corners, 1 handball and their keeper had 5 saves.

We thank coach Getz and coach Wilhelm for the information.
