Transgender school sports bill moves on to Governor

STATEHOUSE — A bill that would allow only biological girls to play sports in Indiana schools was approved Tuesday by a 32-18 vote in the state Senate.

The measure now heads to Governor Eric Holcomb’s desk.

It’s not clear if he plans to sign the bill into law, but if he does, Indiana would join at least 10 other states with a similar law on the books.

Opponents of the bill say transgender students deserve opportunities to play sports.

Supporters of the measure say they do not want to see opportunities taken away from biological girls.
