Track recaps from Thursday, April 14

The following are track recaps from Thursday, April 14.  All events are varsity unless noted otherwise.  There may be updates, so please check back.

East Central participated in the Harrison Junior Varsity Invitational.  The Lady Trojans won the event and the EC boys were second.

Girls top 3 teams: East Central 165, Little Miami 85 and Talawanda 71.

Boys top 3 teams: St. Xavier 156, East Central 93 and Anderson 89.

Riley Shumate was a two-time individual winner for East Central.  Teammates Josi Haarmeyer and Alaina McDaniel also won.  The Trojan ladies swept all four relay events as well:

  • 4×100- Jenna Hornbach, Bree Cleary, Jordan Carr and Lilly Cash
  • 4×200- Hornbach, Alex Suebert, Josi Haarmeyer, and Lauren Ruebusch
  • 4×400- Jessica Bender, Addy Cleary, Shumate and Jada Hicks
  • 4×800- A. Cleary, Emma Bowling, Caiden Cotten-Powers and Bender

Batesville took two over the Tigers in Lawrenceburg, 77-60 in the girls meet and 69-63 in the boys.

Eli Pierson was a three-time individual winner for Batesville.  Cora Deputy scored two individual blues.  The Dogs had 21 individual firsts and claimed four of six relays. (More details follow after the recaps.)

Jac-Cen-Del competed in a tri-meet in Hanover.  Switzerland County won the girls event with 78 points, the Lady Eagles followed with 43 and the Lady Rebels scored 29.  Host Southwestern took a tight boys meet with 56 points, Switz tallied 49 and Jac had 44.

Kayla Simon was an individual victor in two events.  Emma Newhart, Cloey Simon, Corbin White, Jacob Ricke and Adam Maloney all took home one blue ribbon. (More details follow after the recaps.)

The Connersville boys won a tri meet at Centerville which included Union County while the girls placed second.

Two-time Spartan individual winners were Parker Sweet, Carter Deboard and Kaitly Seeley.  Single vics came from Owen Backer, Andrew Isaac, Micah Buchannon, Lucas Barron, Lexi Barr and Raykaya Dixon.  CHS also took all three boys relays and the 4×100 in the girls. South Ripley won a pair of home quad meets.  The Raider boys edged runner-up Oldenburg 84-74, and the Lady Raiders dominated with 105-44 spread over second place Shawe.  Rising Sun also competed.

South Ripley’s Emily Flood was a three-time individual winner.  Double winners for Team Green included William Tunney and Ryan Miller.

Single wins for South Ripley came from: Shelby Bastin, Lanie Nicholson, Alexa Yeomans.  Carson Fisk and the girls 4×800 relay. (More details follow after the recaps.)

At the junior high level, North Decatur struggled at Tri but Eli Weisenbach came home with a pair of firsts. Mary Steir and Sarah Moeller both won an event as did the Lady Charger 4×400 relay team. (More details follow after the recaps.)

Unedited coaches reports…

Batesville’s Lisa Gausman- It was finally a night of sunshine for our track meet tonight and it was fun watching the Bulldogs increase their win count with a victory over Lawrenceburg at the Tiger stadium.

Lawrenceburg put on a great challenge for the Dogs and it came down to the last event, but the Bulldogs pulled it off. The girls won 77-60 and the boys won by 6 points 69-63.

With a few injuries and some sickness, many of the Dogs were asked to step it up a bit and they answered the challenge. The girls captured 10 individual championships and the boys 11. But, one of the highlights of the evening came towards the beginning of the meet where Senior Eli Pierson broke Chris Giesting’s 100m dash record from 2010 (11.01) by .02 seconds, flying through the finish line in 10.99. He also came in first in the 200m dash and 400m dash. Congratulations Eli!

Connersville’s Jeff Cooley- The boys track and field team took first place in a three team meet against Centerville and Union County. Winners for the night were: the 4×800 team(Baker Isaac Steele Barron) Parker Sweet won the 110 and 300 hurdles, Carter Deboard won the long jump and the 100 meter dash, The 4×100 meter relay team of (Sweet Buchannan Hornsbey DeBoard) took firsr place, Owen Baker won the 800,Andrew Isaac won the 400 Micah Buchannan won the 200, Lucas Barron won the high jump, and the 4×400 team of (Baker Isaac Peterson Barron) were winners. The boys are next in action Tuesday at Greensburg against Greensburg and New Castle.

The girls track and field team traveled to Centerville for a three team meet Thursday finishing in second place behind Centerville. Winners for the night were; Lexi Barr in the 100 hurdles, Raykaya Dixon in the 800, Kaitly Seeley in the 400 and the 200, the 4×400 team of (Seeley Dixon Barr Soriano) also were victorious. The next meet for the girls is Tuesday at Greensburg vs New Castle and Greensburg.

North Decatur Junior High’s Destiny Brown- The JH Chargers had another tough fight tonight, but some notable moments from the meet include: Eli Weisenbach took first place in the 100 M Hurdles and Long Jump (14’6″), along with second in the mile. Simon Barber with a second place finish in the High Jump, and third in the 200 M Dash. Nolan Barber also placed third in Discus (64’4″).

North Decatur Junior High’s Brenda Morris- Tonight the junior high girls track team went against Tri Jr/Sr high school. Highlights from the meet are:

  • 4×400 meter relay team got 1st place with a time of 5:13. The relay team consisted of Ava Lecher, Mary Steir, Sara Lecher, and Sarah Moeller.
  • 4×100 relay team got 2nd place with a time of 1:02. The relay team consisted of Jessie Biltz, Olivia Reisman, Ellie Metz, and Lyla Fellows.
  • Mary Steir – 1st in the 200 meter dash with a time of 31.34 seconds, and was part of the 4×400 relay team.
  • Layla Fellows – 3rd place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 31.91 seconds, and was part of the 4×100 relay team.
  • Sarah Moeller – 1st place in the hurdles with a time of 18.9 seconds, 3rd place in 1600 meter run with a time of 6:52, 1st place in the high jump with a height of 4’4″. She was also part of the 4×400 meter relay team.
  • Ava Lecher – 3rd place in the hurdle with a time of 21.09 secdonds, 2nd place in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:19, 3rd place in the 800 meter run with a time of 3:23. She was also part of 4×400 relay team.
  • Olivia Reisman – 3rd place in the 100 meter run with a time of 15.89 seconds. She was also part of the 4×400 meter relay.
  • Sophie Rohls – 2nd place in the high jump with the height of 4’2″, 3rd place in long jump with a length of 11.2 feet.
