In Loving Memory of Toby Micheal Day
August 24, 1974 – September 27, 2023
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Toby Michael Day, a devoted husband, loving father, and esteemed faculty and staff member in the field of mortuary science. Born on August 24, 1974, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, to Michelle and Terry Day, Toby was a talented individual who always poured 100% into everything he did. Leaving a profound impact, he will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.
Toby worked in the auto body industry for over 20 years as a Master Certified Collision Repair Specialist. After a debilitating battle with Lyme Disease in 2015 he was forced to change professions due to physical limitations. After going back to school at the age of 40, he was thrilled to earn a degree from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science where he later became an accomplished faculty and staff member.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Toby’s life was enriched by the love he shared with his wife, Loretta Day, his cherished son Thomas Day, and beloved siblings David (Desiree) Day, Kara (Will) Weaver, Ericka (Kelly) Barnes, and Willy (Barbara) Solis.
Toby’s love for life extended far beyond the classroom. He was a dedicated member of the Boy Scouts of America for more than a decade serving as Scoutmaster for many years as well as on District Council and as a Wood Badge Leadership trainer. Toby was also an esteemed member and Past Master of Hopewell Masonic Lodge, where he found fulfillment through meaningful fellowship and frequently traveling to other lodges in the region for degree work. In his free time, he found joy in riding his motorcycle, exploring the open road, and embracing the freedom that it brought.
Toby was an immensely talented person who possessed a multitude of skills and interests. He was always finding new projects he wanted to try and usually mastered anything he put his hand to. He had a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, often spending time with family as a child learning the art of woodworking and leathercraft. Two art forms he continued to excel at and found solace in these throughout his life.
In celebrating Toby’s life, his loved ones remember his passion for excellence, his dedication, and his service to others. His sharp wit will be remembered by all who knew him, and his memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of those touched by his life.
Visitation will take place from 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday, October 6, 2023, with a Masonic Service at 7 pm and a Celebrant Service to follow immediately after, at the First Baptist Church of Aurora, 6060 Blair Rd, Aurora, IN 47001
