Theresa Kay Koester, beloved mother, dedicated nurse, cherished grandmother, and sister passed away on July 23, 2024, in New Albany, Indiana, at the age of 66.
Theresa was born on November 19, 1957, in Greensburg, Indiana, to Irvin Sr. and Mary (Roell) Vanderpohl. She grew up in Decatur County and graduated from South Decatur High School in 1976. Theresa pursued her passion for nursing, earning both a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) from Indiana University, where she graduated at the top of her class.
Throughout her distinguished career, Theresa made significant contributions in healthcare, specializing in pain management and home care. Her compassion and dedication were particularly evident in her work with the elderly and as a hospice volunteer, where she touched countless lives with her caring presence.
Beyond her professional achievements, Theresa found joy in her hobbies. She was an avid card maker, a talented baker known for her delicious cookies, which were a delight for her grandsons. She took immense pride in attending her grandsons’ sporting events, always cheering them on with enthusiasm and love.
She is survived by her loving family: her children Cindy (Craig) Mackey and Sierra Koester, grandchildren Liam Mackey, David Mackey, and Paul Mackey, her siblings Thomas (Berniece) Vanderpohl, Rita (Doug) Cox, Paul (Nancy) Vanderpohl, Bernice (Charles) Cook, and Kate (Fred) Fry.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Irvin Vanderpohl Jr.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024, from 11am to 1pm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen. A Funeral Mass will be held following the time of visitation at 1pm, also at the church, with Father Binu Mathew officiating. Burial will take place in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, reflecting Theresa’s passion for caring for the elderly.
