
Sylvester Allen, age 85, of Laurel, Indiana died Saturday, April 4, 2026, at his residence in Laurel following a lengthy illness.
Born March 2, 1941 in Harlan, Kentucky he was one of seven children born to the late William Riley & Susan (Ison) Allen. He was united in marriage on January 4, 1972 to the former Debbie Wells, and she survives.
He was a member of Bible Baptist Church of Metamora. He had done stone masonry work for much of his life. He was a renown softball & baseball player. He was also an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish.
Besides Debbie, his loving wife of over 54 years, survivors include four children, Brian (Amanda) Allen of Metamora, Indiana; Jessi Wells of Laurel, Indiana, John Allen of Metamora, Indiana and Daniel Allen of Shelbyville, Indiana; a sister, Betty Purvis of Dayton, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Megan Drew, Tyler Mullins, Morgan Wells, Riley Allen, Anthony Moore, Avery Allen, Alex Allen, Sydney Allen; seven great-grandchildren, Cora Ketchum, Raylen Hall, Carson Mercado, Krew Mullins, Kai Mullins, Macenna Drew, Violet Allen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Inez Hartford & Faye Snyder, three brothers, Lawrence Allen, William ‘Bud’ Allen and John Allen.
Family & friends may visit from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Metamora Church of God, 20146 U.S. Highway 52, Laurel, Indiana.
Rev. Wayne Ison & Rev. Rob Edwards will officiate the Funeral Service at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Metamora Church of God. Burial will then follow in Mobley Cemetery in Metamora, Indiana.
