Sunman Man Airlifted In S.R. 101 Crash

RIPLEY COUNTY, Ind. – A Sunman man was airlifted after a two-vehicle crash on S.R. 101 south of Penntown Monday around 7:30 a.m.

Authorities say a semi with a flatbed trailer had pulled into Lykins Construction and the driver was asked to not pull onto the blacktop portion of the property. The driver, identified as Kenneth Sanders, 48, of Shoals, Indiana, backed out of the driveway to readjust the semi and the trailer was about four feet into the southbound lane.

A Ford Escort operated by Richard Gould, 81, of Sunman, struck the trailer.

Gould, who suffered back pain and possible fractured elbow, was airlifted to University Hospital in Cincinnati. Sanders was not injured.

No charges have been filed but the crash remains under investigation.
