Southeastern IN — A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Decatur County from 4 pm Thursday until 1 pm Friday, while Ripley, Franklin, and Dearborn counties are under a Winter Storm Watch from Thursday evening through Friday afternoon.
In addition, a Wind Chill Watch will be in effect for Ripley, Franklin, and Dearborn counties from late Thursday night through early Saturday morning.
Heavy snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are expected, along with wind gusts as high as 50 mph during the period.
That will lead to blowing snow and wind chills dipping as low as 25-30 below zero.
The National Service says to plan on slippery road conditions, with widespread blowing snow significantly reducing visibility.
Strong winds could bring down tree branches and potentially lead to power outages.
The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10-15 minutes.
Forecasters say a rare flash freeze is likely Thursday night with temperatures dropping more than 30 degrees in a matter of hours during the transition from rain to snow.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, a blanket, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
