Steven A. Mills

On Wednesday, April 29, 2020, Steven Mills, a man known for his infectious smile and a kind and compassionate spirit passed away at the age of 68.

Steve was born on September 6, 1951 in Peru, Indiana to Walter and Dorthea (Grepke) Mills.  He graduated from Peru High School in 1969 and went on to receive his B.S. in Education from Ball State University in 1973 and his Masters in Education from Indiana University in 1977. Steve taught 4-6 graders for 39 years in the Greensburg Community School Corporation. His love of students and the excitement he brought to the classroom had a huge impact on many of the young people in the Greensburg community. After retirement Steve worked for Adtec Consulting and Indiana Wesleyan University.

On August 11, 1973, Steve married his soulmate and best friend, Linda Reinholt.

Besides teaching, Steve had many passions. His passion for music led him to be a hand bell ringer/director and a guitar student.  His artistic talents were evident to everyone who were lucky enough to receive a handmade basket. Steve loved the great outdoors and traveling to National Parks and Disney World.  Steve’s travels in the fall centered around Lucas Oil Stadium for Colts football games which he enjoyed with his nephew Ryan.

Steve was proceeded in death by his father, Walt, his mother Dorothea, and his two sisters Judy Smith and Shirley Romine. He is survived by his wife Linda, his brother Bill Mills of Arkansas, sister-in-law Laura Eller and her husband Dan of Lowell, nephews Ryan and Jon Eller, Greg Romine, Marvin Harris, Bill Mills Jr. and nieces Pam Praether, Beth Whetestone, and Nancy Daniels. Steve is also survived by his two furry friends Peyton and Eli.

A drive thru visitation will be Saturday, May 2, 2020 from 11am – 1pm under the Meyers Funeral Home side car port with private funeral services at 1:30pm. Burial immediately following at the United Methodist Cemetery where family and friends are welcome to ride in procession from the funeral home to the cemetery for a socially distanced graveside service.

Memorials can be made to Batesville United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society by dropping off or mailing to Meyers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 202, Batesville, IN 47006.

To attend the drive thru visitation under the side car port, enter the funeral home parking lot off of Township Line Road, using the entrance behind the funeral home.  Please follow the markers and traffic to circle through the parking lot.  All traffic will exit onto St. Rd. 46. You must remain in your vehicle during your entire visit. We appreciate your patience with this new concept. This way we can follow state mandated guidelines while allowing families and friends the opportunity to offer condolences in person during these trying times.
