(Ripley/Franklin Counties, IN) – INDOT, in coordination with the City of Batesville and local public officials, says the previously planned right-sizing of State Road 46 between State Roads 129 and 229 in Batesville has been eliminated from the project.
This comes after a public hearing held at Batesville High School in early May in which an overwhelming number of residents and others spoke out against the plan.
The agency says the project team reviewed alternatives by evaluating additional roadway needs for 46 between 129 and 229.
As a result, the original right-sizing plan is no longer on the drawing board.
The planned State 46 roadway improvement project now includes asphalt resurfacing and restriping on 46 between 229 and 129; installation of a dedicated left turn lane on eastbound 46 at Bedel Boulevard; and installation of a dedicated signalized left turn lane on east and westbound 46 at Tekulve Road, which will replace the left thru lane in each direction at Tekulve.
All improvements will be made within existing pavement.
INDOT says the project’s aim is to improve the condition of the road and enhance safety and mobility along State Road 46 in Batesville by reducing the frequency of rear-end crashes.
The contract is currently scheduled to let to contractors in December 2025.
INDOT says additional project information will be provided before the start of construction.
Initial project information and the presentation from the May 5 public hearing are available online at Seymour.indot.in.gov.
