The Lady Cardinals traveled down to the banks of the Ohio River in Aurora to face off against St. Lawrence at St. Mary’s gym for the final regular season game. The night started off with a dance battle at center court during the warm ups. St. Lawrence started the game off with the first two points of the game, but the Lady Cardinals put on a defensive clinic after that. The Cardinals did not allow anymore points the rest of the match-up, with the final score being 26-2 in favor of the Cards.
Lucy Brelage did what she does best and frustrated the opponent’s point guards, going after the ball relentlessly, causing mistakes and turnovers. Kristen Obermeyer rotated around the zone, playing stifling defense whenever the ball came near her. She getting involved in tie ups, leading to jump balls and grabbing multiple rebounds while scoring 2 points on the night. Cassie Meneses played a great, no nonsense brand of physical basketball down in the paint, knocking away 7 entry passes to the paint on the night. Ellie Weberding came off the bench and added amazing speed and hustle to the team, as she forced multiple turnovers and almost scored on a fast breakaway opportunity.
Lydia Dwyer showed great leadership by being consistent throughout the game, scoring a bucket in each quarter and finishing with 8 points. Reagan Siefert also had a monster game in the paint, sending shots the other direction, and outworking her opponents to grab rebounds while adding 4 points offensively. Isla Padget provided fresh legs off the bench and showed off her versatility dribbling the basketball, as she sliced through the opposition’s defense with her left and right hand, ending the game with 3 points. Claire Baker lead all scorers with 9 points and showed great IQ and leadership at the point guard position, facilitating the offense by adding 4 assists.
