Batesville Middle School girls’ cross country won a three-way meet Monday against St. Mary’s (Greensburg) and Columbus Christian. The Bulldogs scored 23 points, St. Mary’s was 2nd with 28, and Columbus Christian had 59 points. In the boys’ race, it was the St. Mary’s Knights in first place with 27 points, Batesville one point behind at 28, and Columbus Christian came in 3rd with 59 points.

East Central’s 1994 Class 4A state championship football team will be honored in pregame ceremonies before the Trojans season opener Friday in St. Leon against Lawrenceburg. Anyone associated with that team 30 years ago – players, coaches, managers and others – are invited to be a part of the celebration. The ‘94 EC team, coached by Hall of Famer Rod Ballart, capped off a 14-0 season by rolling over DeKalb 35-0 in the state title game played at the RCA Dome. The Reds doubled up the Blue Jays 6-3 in Toronto last night. The Reds number 11 prospect, starting righthanded pitcher Julian Aguiar made his Major League debut, but did not figure into the decision. Tony Santillan notched the win in relief while former Red Kevin Gausman took the loss. T.J. Friedl went 3 for 4 at the plate with a home run. Ty France was 2 for 4 and drove in a pair of runs. The Bengals and Colts will hold a joint practice today in Cincinnati. The two teams meet Thursday night in the preseason finale at Paycor Stadium.

In auto racing, Tyler Reddick held off William Byron for the narrow win in overtime at the rain-delayed NASCAR Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.
