North Decatur 8th grade volleyball defeated Jac-Cen-Del in two sets. Scores were 25-17, 25-20. The Chargers improve to 6-4 on the season.
Batesville Middle School cross country competed in a tri-meet in Lawrenceburg Wednesday evening with Greendale and St. Lawrence. The Bulldogs Ana Shane was the girls meet champ, with teammates Emmalynn Allgeier and Bailey Feldman finishing second and third overall. BMS won the girls race with a team score of 22. St. Lawrence finished with 35. Greendale did not field a complete girls team. However, Greendale won the boys race with 17 points with Batesville finishing second with 42. St. Lawrence did not have a complete boys team. Cael Luhman led the Bulldogs with a fourth place finish.
The Reds beat the Cardinals 6-2 in St. Louis in a game heard yesterday afternoon on WRBI. Spencer Steer went 3 for 4 at the plate with a homer and five runs driven in. Brady Singer gave up three hits, an earned run, two walks, and struck out six over 5 2/3 innings to pick up his 14th win of the year. The Reds take two out of three in St. Louis and return home tonight to begin the final homestand of the season when they play the first of four against the Chicago Cubs. Airtime tonight is 6:45 on 103.9 FM.
Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is the AFC Offensive Player of the Week. Taylor carried the ball 25 times for 165 yards and had two catches for 51 yards and a touchdown in the Colts’ win over Denver last Sunday. A couple of key playmakers were absent from Colts practice on Wednesday. Indianapolis released its first injury report for Week Three, and wide receiver Josh Downs along with tight end Tyler Warren did not participate. But Laiatu Latu practiced as he recovers from an injured hamstring. Indy hits the road for the first time this season when it visits the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The Colts have not been 3-and-0 to kick off a season since 2009.

Week Four of the college football season is almost upon us. The 19th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers will open Big Ten play on Saturday at Memorial Stadium against #9 Illinois. The Purdue Boilermakers head to South Bend to face 24th-ranked Notre Dame. And Ball State will be back on the road for a date with Connecticut.
