The Oldenburg Academy varsity volleyball team took the Southwestern Spartan Invitational championship on Saturday with victories over Horizon Christian, Shakamak, and host Southwestern. The Twisters improve to 8-3 on the year.

Batesville girls’ cross country had eight of its varsity runners finish in the top 30 at the Ben Davis Invitational on Saturday. The Bulldogs’ Jake Chapman was the individual runner-up in the boys’ race.

North Decatur won the Mid-Hoosier Conference girls’ golf tournament with a team score of 423 Saturday at North Branch. Macy Kinker led the Chargers with a 102. Kinker and teammate Mary Stier were named all-conference golfers.

Batesville boys’ tennis finished fourth at the Columbus North Invitational on Saturday. Winners for the Bulldogs were Jevan Smith in #2 singles and Carson Meyer in #3 singles vs. Providence.

The Minnesota Twins pounded the Reds 9-2 yesterday. Cincinnati took two out of three games played over the weekend in Minneapolis. The Reds are off today before starting the final home stand of the season tomorrow night with the first of three against the Atlanta Braves.

Harrison Butker’s 51-yard field goal as time expired lifted the Kansas City Chiefs over the Bengals 26-25 at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. With the loss, Cincinnati starts the season at 0-2.

Also in NFL action, It was the Green Bay Packers over the Colts 16-10 at Lambeau Field. Indianapolis drops to 0-2.

Indiana Fever held off the Dallas Wings 110-109 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse yesterday. Caitlin Clark poured in a game-high 30 points, while Kelsey Mitchell added 30 for the Fever.

Alex Palou is the back-to-back Indy Car champion. He’s the first repeat champ since Dario Franchitti did it in 2010 and 2011. It’s Palou’s third overall Indy Car title. Colton Herta won Sunday’s season finale race in Nashville.

Chris Buescher took the checkered flag in overtime at the NASCAR Cup playoff race at Watkins Glen, New York.
