The Reds will host a visitation for Pete Rose next month at Great American Ball Park. The 14-hour visitation – in honor the uniform number he wore for Cincinnati, Philadelphia and Montreal during his 24-year Major League career – will take place November 10 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is free and open to the public. Pete Rose Day will be held at GABP on May 14 when the Reds host the Chicago White Sox. Details on that are forthcoming. Rose, who is Baseball’s all-time hits leader, died September 30 at the age of 83.
Chris Valaika has been hired as hitting coach on new Reds manager Terry Francona’s staff. Valaika spent the past three seasons as Cleveland’s hitting coach. A third-round draft pick by the Reds in 2006, Valaika was an infielder for Cincinnati over parts of the 2010 and ’11 seasons.
Game 1 of the World Series takes place tonight when the New York Yankees visit the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Indiana Pacers take on the New York Knicks in NBA action tonight. Tipoff at Madison Square Garden is set for 7:30.
