Jennings County defeated Batesville in three sets to win the Class 3A volleyball sectional at Lawrenceburg in a match heard on WRBI Saturday night.

South Decatur takes the 1A North Decatur sectional championship three sets to one over Morristown. The Cougars will play top-ranked Trinity Lutheran at the Edinburgh regional this Saturday evening.

Rising Sun topped Milan three sets to one in the 1A semifinals at Trinity Lutheran.

South Ripley fell in straight sets to host Brownstown Central in the 2A championship game.

And Franklin Community ended East Central’s season in three sets in the 4A title game on the Trojans’ home court.

Greenwood Christian blanked Oldenburg Academy 3-Nil in the Class 1A boys soccer regional championship game at Knightstown. And Heritage Christian outgunned OA 3-1 in the 1A girls regional title game, also at Knightstown. Both of the Twisters’ matches were heard Saturday on WRBI.

East Central got past host Carmel on penalty kicks to win the girls 4A soccer regional championship. EC takes on Center Grove in the battle of the Trojans at Saturday’s Martinsville semi-state.

The East Central girls win the team race at the Rushville cross country sectional on Saturday. Batesville finished second and OA was 10th. The Trojans’ Callie Bentley was the individual champion with a school record time of 18:07. Teammate Jena Weiler was second with Batesville’s Lexiyne Harris finishing third. Batesville won the boys race while East Central came in third. The Bulldogs Jake Chapman was the individual champ with a time of 16:24.

Gabe Riehle of Milan was the individual champion with a time of 16:05 in the boys cross country sectional race hosted by Southwestern (Hanover). Teammate Lucas Cooney finished third. As a team, the Indians came in fifth place. Milan’s Hannah Cooney finished fifth individually in the girls’ race at Hanover on Saturday.

Greensburg’s Joe Hawkins qualified for regional competition by finishing ninth in the boys race at the Brown County sectional; fellow Pirate Alaina Bedel came in 15th in the girls race and will move on this weekend.

The top 15 individual cross country runners from non‐advancing teams and the first five qualifying teams from each sectional advance to this Saturday’s Shelbyville regional.

In the NFL yesterday, the Bengals topped the Browns in Cleveland 21-14. Joe Burrow threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns – one apiece to Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered an Achilles injury and is likely done for the year. Cincinnati improves to 3-4.

The Colts got past the Miami Dolphins 16-10 at home. Former tight end Dallas Clark was inducted into the Colts’ Ring of Honor at halftime. Indianapolis is now 4-3.

The matchup for this year’s World Series is set. The Los Angeles Dodgers doubled up the New York Mets 10-5 to win the National League Championship Series four games to two. L-A will host the New York Yankees in Game One of the Fall Classic Friday night.

Joey Logano took the checkered flag at the NASCAR Cup Series playoff race in Las Vegas.
