Oldenburg Academy outlasted Monrovia 1-Nil in the second sudden-death penalty kick set in the Class 1A girls soccer regional semifinals at the Graveyard in a match heard last night on WRBI. Gina Grote notched the winning kick for the Twisters. The two teams were tied at the end of regulation, and both failed to score in two extra time periods. In the first penalty kick period, the Twisters and Bulldogs both scored on two out of five goal kicks, which forced a second PK period. With the dramatic win, OA advances to Saturday’s Knightstown regional finals against Heritage Christian.

East Central blanked Franklin Central 4-Nil in the 3A regional semis in St. Leon. The Trojans will meet host Carmel for the regional championship Saturday afternoon.

It’s a volleyball sectional doubleheader tonight from Lawrenceburg on WRBI. Greensburg takes on South Dearborn followed by Batesville vs. Franklin County. Coverage begins around 6 p.m. with Steve Giesting and Brad Fentress on the call.

In other  volleyball sectional action involving area teams, North Decatur faces Waldron followed by South Decatur against Southwestern on the Chargers home court. Jac-Cen-Del and Milan meet up at Trinity Lutheran.

The Los Angeles Dodgers blanked the Mets 8-0 in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series in New York. The Dodgers take a two-games-to-one lead in the series. Game 4 is tonight.

Game 3 of the American League Championship series between the Yankees and Guardians is this afternoon in Cleveland. New York leads the best-of-seven series two games to none.
