Boys basketball returns to WRBI tonight when Jac-Cen-Del visits South Ripley for the annual Turkey Shootout. Coverage begins around 7:15 on 103.9 FM, wrbiradio.com and the WRBI app…In other action, North Decatur takes the short trip down State Road 3 to Greensburg; Franklin County goes to Hagerstown; Oldenburg Academy hops the bus to Switzerland County, and South Decatur welcomes in Trinity Lutheran.
In girls basketball last night, South Decatur got past Milan 37-34. Coming up tonight, Batesville entertains Seymour…and Oldenburg Academy hosts Union County. The Twisters will host a fundraiser at tonight’s game for Kathy Samples, the wife of girls assistant coach Brian Samples. She was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. The “White Out for Kathy” game will feature raffles and split the pot with all proceeds going to the Samples family. OA asks that everyone wear white.
Batesville and Franklin County split in boys middle school hoops. The Bulldogs won the 8th grade game 27-10. The Wildcats took the 7th grade contest 39-27…Also splitting were St. Louis and Benjamin Rush. The Cubs won in 7th grade play 37-16, while the Cardinals came out on top in the 8th grade game 32-11.
It was St. Louis over St. Lawrence 40-28 in 5th grade boys basketball. The Cardinals fell to St. Lawrence in the 6th grade game 44-7.
Kansas remained solidly entrenched at No. 1 in the AP Top 25 men’s college basketball poll prior to its showdown with Duke in Las Vegas. The Jayhawks received 51 of 62 first-place votes from the national panel of media, putting them well ahead of two-time reigning national champion UConn, which was second with six first-place votes. Gonzaga, Auburn and Iowa State at three, four and five, respectively, round out the top five. Kentucky is at #8; Purdue holds the 13th spot with Indiana right behind at #14; UC is 16th and Xavier cracks the Top 25 at #22.
The Pacers slid past the New Orleans Pelicans 114-110 in NBA action last night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Tyrese Haliburton recorded a double-double, scoring 34 points and dishing out 13 assists.
The Baltimore Ravens got past the Los Angeles Chargers 30-23 on Monday Night Football.
