Batesville varsity baseball went 1-1 in the Tony Laughman Memorial Tournament in Bloomington on Saturday. The Bulldogs got past Bloomington North 2-1 in the morning game, but fell to Carmel 8-0 in the championship game. Batesville is now 16-5 heading into the final week of the regular season.

Oldenburg Academy traveled to Vevay and knocked off Switzerland County 12-3 in varsity baseball on Saturday. Senior Zach Hoff tossed a complete game for the Twisters. Hoff gave up five hits, three runs (one earned), walked two and struck out five Pacers. Connor Holder led the OA offense, going 3 for 5 with two singles and a home run. Holder’s dinger broke the Twisters’  homerless streak, which stretched back to the 2021 sectional when Andrew Oesterling touched them all.

Batesville repeats as EIAC golf champions after winning the league tournament on Saturday at Arbor Crossing Golf Club in Connersville. The Bulldogs finished at 329. Third place Franklin County finished with 355, Greensburg carded a 364 to finish fourth, and East Central came in fifth with a 367.
In tennis, the hosts won the Batesville Invitational on Saturday. The Bulldogs took three of five positions to give them 15 points, which was two better than Trinity Lutheran and Borden. Rushville came in fourth.

The Reds held off the Cleveland Guardians 3-1 to yesterday at Great American Ball Park to complete a three-game series sweep, in a game heard on WRBI. Cincinnati has won four straight. Will Benson clubbed two home runs to account for all three Reds runs. Benson has five homers in the last four games. Andrew Abbott got the win, and Emilio Pagan notched his 12th save. The Reds begin a brief road trip tonight with the first of three in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. Lefty Nick Lodolo goes for Cincinnati against Mitch Keller. Airtime on 103.9 FM is 6:10.

The Pacers will face the Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals after New York crushed Boston 119-81 Friday to win the series four games to two. Game 1 is Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Madison Square Garden. WRBI coverage tips off at 7:30.

Rookie Rob Shwartzman is the pole-sitter for Sunday’s 109th running of the Indianapolis 500. Shwartzman becomes to first rookie to claim the Indy 500 pole since Teo Fabi accomplished the feat in 1983.
