The boys basketball postseason tipped off last night around the state, and it was Batesville over Greensburg 58-44 in the Class 3A Sectional 29 opener at South Dearborn, as you heard on the Sports Voice. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 14-9 and advance to Friday’s semifinal against Jennings County. The Pirates season ends at 12-12.
In the nightcap of our doubleheader, Trinity Lutheran knocked off Jac-Cen-Del 40-33 in Class 1A Sectional 60 at Milan. Johnny Newhart led the Eagles with 12 points. JCD ends the season at 6-17.
In other first round games involving area teams last night, South Dearborn eliminated Franklin County 68-47 in the 3A Sectional 29 nightcap on the Knights home court. The Wildcats finish at 7-15…And it was North Decatur over Knightstown 50-43 in Class 1A Sectional 59 at Edinburgh…The Chargers improve to 12-13 and will play Waldron in the first semifinal at Edinburgh Friday night.
We have another first round sectional doubleheader tonight on the Sports Voice. Oldenburg takes on Rising Sun in Class 1A Sectional 60 at Milan. St. Louis 5th grade girls basketball dropped St. Lawrence 19-13 on the road last night.
The Reds dropped a split squad road doubleheader Tuesday in Arizona. It was Colorado over Cincinnati 9-5 in the afternoon tilt. And the Los Angeles Dodgers doubled up the Reds 4-2 last night. Cincinnati plays Texas this afternoon in Goodyear. First pitch at 3:05.
The #18 Purdue Boilermakers clobbered Rutgers 100-71 last night at Mackey Arena. Purdue is now 21-9 overall and 13-6 in the Big Ten.
Oregon beat Indiana 73-64 last night in Eugene. The Hoosiers fall to 18-12 overall and 9-10 in conference play.
In the NBA, the Pacers grounded the Houston Rockets 115-102 last night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Tyrese Haliburton led all scorers with 28 points and dished out 15 assists. The Pacers are now 35-25 on the season.
