Several local players have been named by the Indiana Football Coaches Association to the South squad for the 59th annual Murat Shrine All Star Classic. Batesville running back Gage Pohlman, Milan offensive lineman Landon Stanley, and linebackers Carson Pieczonka from East Central and South Decatur’s Corben Johnson will suit up one final time as high school football players when the South takes on the North on Friday, July 11 at Decatur Central High School. In addition, East Central’s Tom Harris will be an assistant coach for the South.

The Pacers edged the Dallas Mavericks 135-131 in NBA action heard last night on the Sports Voice. Five players scored in double figures for Indiana. The homestand continues tonight for the 39-29 Pacers when they take on the Brooklyn Nets. WRBI airtime is 6:30.

Darien DeVries was formally introduced as Indiana University mens basketball coach at a press conference yesterday. DeVries spent the past year as West Virginia head coach after six successful seasons at Drake. DeVries signed a six-year deal to coach the Hoosiers.

In NCAA Tournament First Four games last night in Dayton, Ohio, Mt. St. Mary’s topped American University, 83-72, and Xavier rallied to knock off Texas, 86-80. The Musketeers will play Illinois in the first round of the Midwest Regional tomorrow night in Milwaukee.

The Purdue Boilermakers open NCAA Tourney play this afternoon against High Point. Tipoff in Providence, Rhode Island is 12:40.
