Elly De La Cruz went 3 for 4 with a home run, a triple, three runs batted in and two runs scored. Gavin Lux also homered for Cincinnati. Scott Barlow got the win in relief to go to 2-0 on the season. Allan Winans took the loss for the Yankees. In tonight’s middle game of the series, last year’s #2 overall draft pick, Reds right hander Chase Burns, will make his big league debut on the mound. The Reds yesterday designated infielder Jeimar Candelario for assignment. Candalario signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Reds in December 2023, but has largely struggled at the plate since joining the team. With Candelario halfway into his deal, the team will owe him $22.5 million through 2026.

Elly De La Cruz has moved up to third place among shortstops in voting for the National League All-Star team. Catcher Jose Trevino (8th), second baseman Matt McLain (10th) and third baseman Santiago Espinal (10th) are among the leaders at their respective positions. The Indiana Pacers confirmed guard Tyrese Haliburton suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the first quarter of Game Seven of the NBA Finals Sunday night. An MRI on Monday confirmed the injury. Haliburton will likely miss the 2025-26 season, but the team did not announce a timeline for his return.
