The Reds battled back to knock off the Minnesota Twins 6-5 last night in downtown Cincinnati in a game heard on WRBI. Cincinnati led 4-1 going into the 6th inning before the Twins went ahead 5-4. But with two outs in the bottom of the frame, T.J. Friedl drove in Jake Fraley and Matt McLain with a two-out double to right centerfield what turned out to be the winning runs. Scott Barlow got the win in relief to improve his record to 2-0. Emilio Pagan notched his 17th save of the year. The Reds have now won three straight and improve to 38-35, which ties a season best three games over .500. The middle game of the series is tonight. Lefty Nick Lodolo starts for the Reds. He’ll be opposed by Twins righthander Bailey Ober. Coverage begins at 6:40 on 103.9 FM.
Before the game, the Reds announced some roster moves. Right handed reliever Graham Ashcraft was placed on the 15-day injured list – retroactive to Monday – with a right groin strain. In a corresponding move, the team recalled pitcher Luis Mey from Triple A Louisville.
Outfielder Jacob Hurtubise was claimed off waivers by the Seattle Mariners. Hurtubuise was designated for assignment last Saturday when the Reds claimed INF/OF Ryan Vilade off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals.
Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton has a strained right calf. According to a report from ESPN, Haliburton will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the strain. He aggravated his calf injury in the first quarter of Monday’s 120-109 Game 5 loss in the NBA Finals to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Pacers medical staff wrapped the calf and Haliburton finished the game despite the injury, and scored four points. Game Six is tomorrow night. WRBI coverage begins at 8 p.m.
