The National Federation of State High School Associations announced on Tuesday that a double first base will be required in high school baseball games starting in 2027. The Indianapolis-based organization says the move is being made to minimize the risk of collisions by runners and fielders. The double first base is required to be white and a contrasting solid color. The white portion will be located in fair territory while the colored half will be in foul territory, split by the first base line.
The Miami Marlins crushed the Reds 12-2 at Great American Ball Park in a game heard last night on WRBI. Miami plated seven runs in the 3rd inning off Reds starter and loser Nick Martinez. His record drops to 6-9 on the year. Cincinnati has now lost four in a row. The two teams are back at it tonight. Lefthander and All-Star pitcher Andrew Abbott goes for Cincinnati. He’ll be opposed by Marlins righthander and former Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara. Broadcast time is 6:40 on 103.9 FM.
Andrew Abbott has been added to the National League All-Star team. He replaces Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Abbott will join teammate Elly De La Cruz on the NL squad for next Tuesday’s Midsummer Classic in Atlanta. A first-time All-Star, Abbott is 7-1 with a 2.15 ERA.
The Reds yesterday placed OF Jake Fraley (right shoulder sprain) on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville, and transferred the rehab assignment of RHP Carson Spiers (right shoulder impingement) to Louisville.
Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White says guard Caitlin Clark will return to action this afternoon at home against Golden State barring any setbacks. Clark has missed the last five games with a groin injury.
