The San Diego Padres optioned Batesville graduate Bryan Hoeing to Triple-A affiliate El Paso this past week. Hoeing was on the mound in a relief appearance this past Saturday for the Chihuahuas in a 5-1 win over the Sugar Land Space Cowboys. The former Bulldog threw two innings, allowing no runs on two hits with four strikeouts. El Paso is back in action tonight on the road against the Round Rock Express. Hoeing made a handful of appearances beginning in June for San Diego after starting the year on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. The Padres are in high hopes for him to make a return to the Major League roster as part of the playoff push.

 

The Cincinnati Reds saw their four-game win streak come to an end on Monday night at Great American Ballpark, falling 5-2 to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Gavin Lux and Will Benson each drove in a run for the Reds while TJ Friedl hit his 16th double of the season. The offense failed to give starting pitcher Chase Burns any run support in his five and two-thirds innings of work, allowing three earned runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts. Shohei Ohtani drove in two Dodger runs. The Reds and Dodgers return to action tonight for game two of a three-game set. Pregame coverage on WRBI begins at 6:40 with first pitch scheduled for 7:10.

 

A Hall of Fame baseball inductee and Chicago Cubs legend has died. Ryne Sandberg passed away on Monday at age 65 after a battle with prostate cancer. Sandberg was traded by the Phillies to the Cubs in 1982 and he would go on to an illustrious 15-year career in Chicago where he would win National League MVP in 1984. A 10-time All-Star and nine-time Gold Glove winner, Sandberg’s career also included a .285 batting average with 282 home runs, 1,061 RBI and 344 stolen bases. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005, the same year the Cubs retired his No. 23.

 

The Indianapolis Colts gained long-term protection on the offensive line Monday. Left tackle Bernhard Raimann and the team agreed to a four-year $100 million extension according to the NFL Network, making him the fourth-highest paid left tackle in the league. Raimann is entering his fourth season after being selected 77th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Central Michigan product along with left guard Quenton Nelson is being hailed as a dynamic duo up front for running back Jonathan Taylor and quarterbacks Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson.

 

And Indiana Pacer star Tyrese Haliburton was finally down to one knee for a good reason this summer on Monday. Just one month removed from suffering a Torn ACL in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, the Pacer All-Star proposed to longtime girlfriend Jade Jones inside the Hilton Coliseum at Iowa State University. The couple has been dating since 2019 when Haliburton played for the Cyclones. Jones is a former Iowa State cheerleader.
