The New York Mets got past the Reds 3-2 at Citi Field in a game heard yesterday on WRBI. Cincinnati tied the game in the top of the 8th inning at 2-2 but the Mets rallied for what turned out to be the winning run in the bottom half of that frame. Brent Suter took the loss for the Reds. His record is now 1-1. Mets closer Edwin Diaz blew the save opportunity but ended up with the win. He’s now 5-0. The Reds road trip continues when they open a three-game series in our Nation’s Capital tonight against the Washington Nationals. Brady Singer goes to the mound for Cincinnati. He’ll be opposed by righthander Jake Irvin. Airtime is 6:15 on 103.9 FM.

The Reds have returned RHP Carson Spiers (right bicep soreness) from rehab assignment.

In case you missed it, Team Collier rolled over Team Clark 151-131 in the WNBA All-Star Game Saturday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Former Miss Indiana Basketball and Notre Dame star Skyler Diggins-Smith of the Seattle Storm had a triple-double: 11 points, 15 assists, and 11 rebounds for Team Collier. The squad’s namesake, Napheesha Collier of the Minnesota Lynx, tossed in an All-Star game record 36 points.  As for players from the host Indiana Fever, Kelsey Mitchell led Team Clark with 20 points while teammate Aliyah Boston scored 9. Caitlin Clark missed the game due to a groin injury.

The Cincinnati Bengals signed LB Demetrius Knight Jr., the team’s second-round draft pick out of the University of South Carolina over the weekend. The team’s first round draft pick, Texas A & M defensive end Shemar Stewart, remains unsigned heading into training camp, which opens Wednesday at Paycor Stadium.

Former UC quarterback Desmond Ridder has signed with the Bengals. Ridder was the third round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2022. He has also spent time in the league with the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders. The team also released quarterback Logan Woodside, who spent all of last season on the Bengals’ practice squad.

Meanwhile, the Indianapolis Colts kick off training camp on Wednesday at Grand Park in Westfield.

Pato O’Ward took the checkered flag at Sunday’s IndyCar race in Toronto. It’s O’Ward’s second win on the circuit this year.
