The Reds doubled up the Colorado Rockies 4-2 yesterday at Great American Ball Park in a game heard on WRBI. TJ Friedl went 2 for 3 with a home run, and RBI and scored three runs. Nick Martinez gets the win and Emilio Pagan notched his 20th save. The Reds head into the All-Star break with a win that was Terry Francona’s 2,000th victory as a major league manager. Francona becomes just the 13th manager in Major League history to record at at least 2,000 wins. He joins former Reds managers Sparky Anderson and Dusty Baker on that elite list. The Reds go into the All-Star break at 50-47. They’ll return to the diamond on Friday night in Queens against the New York Mets.
The Reds took shortstop Steele Hall with the ninth overall pick in the MLB draft on Sunday. With their next two picks, Cincinnati chose right handed pitchers Aaron Watson and Mason Morris. The draft continues today with rounds four through 20.
The Indiana Fever clipped the Dallas Wings 102-83 in WNBA action yesterday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Five Indiana players scored in double figures, led by Kelsey Mitchell’s 20 points. Caitlin Clark added a double double: 14 points and 13 rebounds. The Fever improves to 11-10 and will be back in action tomorrow night at Connecticut.
Alex Palou won yesterday’s IndyCar race in Iowa. It’s his seventh win on the circuit this season.
