Number-8 Jennings County defeated 3rd-ranked Greensburg 69-47 to win the girls basketball Class 3A Sectional 29 championship at Franklin County as heard Saturday night on the Sports Voice. Senior Aly Powers led the Pirates with 19 points while classmate Mary Harmon added 11. Greensburg finishes the season at 19-7…Columbus North topped East Central 40-28 in the Class 4A Sectional 14 final at Columbus East. The Trojans end the year with a 21-4 record.
Greensburg turned back Jac-Cen-Del 72-50 in boys basketball heard Saturday afternoon on the Sports Voice. Jacoby Miller led the host Pirates with 15 points, followed by Max Buening with 14. In other boys Saturday matinee games, Batesville knocked off Madison 77-53. The Bulldogs’ James Hughes exploded for 39 points (16-of-22 shooting from the field) and Brayden Maple added 11 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists; Milan got past Oldenburg Academy 59-55; North Decatur routed Switzerland County 58-31; it was Columbus North over East Central 63-52, and New Castle 49, Franklin County 40.
Several local boys wrestlers have advanced to next weekend’s semi-state at New Castle following Saturday’s regional at Richmond. East Central won its eighth consecutive regional crown, and will send six individual wrestlers to the next round, including weight class champs Nyden Euson (165) and Brody Wingate (190). Franklin County finished third, followed by Milan in fourth place, Batesville came in ninth place and Greensburg finished 12th. Other local individual weight class champions are Milan’s Mason Baylor (106) and Matthew Baylor (132), plus Carson Weiler (120) and Alex Brewer (144) from Batesville.

The Toronto Raptors routed the Indiana Pacers 122-104 in NBA action heard yesterday on the Sports Voice. Paskal Siakam led the Pacers with 18 points while Jay Huff added 15. The Pacers will be back in action tomorrow night in New York.
The Seattle Seahawks are Super Bowl LX champions after knocking off the New England Patriots 29-13 last night in Santa Clara, California. Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III rushed for 135 yards and was named the game’s MVP.
