North Decatur bested county rival South Decatur 36-29 in Class 1A girls basketball sectional opening round action last night at Waldron as heard last night on the Sports Voice. The Chargers’ Jo Whitaker led all scorers with 14 points. The Cougars were paced by Riley Benge, who tossed in 13. With the win, North Decatur improves to 10-12 and plays Tri in Friday’s semifinal round, after the Titans beat the host Waldron Mohawks 60-39. South Decatur finishes the season at 10-13…

In the second game of our doubleheader last night on WRBI, Batesville cruised past South Dearborn 65-20 in 3A play at Franklin County. The Bulldogs’ Maggie Jelinek led all scorers with 19 points while Kaylin Kathmann knocked down four 3-pointers en route to 17 on the night. Batesville squares its record at 12-12 and will go up against Class 3A #3 and defending state runner-up Greensburg in one semifinal Friday night. The other semi will feature Lawrenceburg against #8 Jennings County. The Tigers eliminated the host Franklin County Wildcats 40-30 in last night’s opener at Brookville…

In the 1A sectional at Jac-Cen-Del, Rising Sun topped Milan 51-38, and Shawe Memorial grounded the host Eagles 81-43…

It’s a battle of Class 1A top 10 teams tonight when #6 Oldenburg Academy takes on 7th-ranked Trinity Lutheran in weather-delayed play at Jac-Cen-Del. Coverage begins around 7:15 on 103.9 FM and the WRBI App.

On the boys’ basketball schedule tonight, Class 3A #7 Batesville pays a visit to South Dearborn; Greensburg goes to Rushville; East Central welcomes in Lawrenceburg; Milan heads to Rising Sun; South Decatur entertains Morristown; South Ripley journeys to Southwestern (Hanover), and North Decatur is home against Waldron.

In college basketball last night, #24 Louisville downed Notre Dame 76-65. Cole Certa led Notre Dame with 18 points. The Fighting Irish have lost eight of their last nine and fall to 11-12 on the season…Butler fell at Providence 97-87, despite 30 points from Finley Bizjack and 20 from Michael Ajayi. The Friars’ Jaylin Sellers poured in a game-high 36 points. The Bulldogs have lost three in a row.
