South Decatur and Greensburg are girls basketball regional champions following their victories heard Saturday on the Sports Voice.

The Cougars got past eighth ranked Oldenburg Academy 40-39 in the Class 1A regional at Southwestern (Shelby). 16-11 South Decatur advances to Saturday ‘s semi-state semifinal at 10 a.m. up against second-ranked Borden at Shelbyville. The Twisters’ season ends at 21-5.

Class 3A #1 Greensburg eliminated third-ranked Washington 50-43 at the Charlestown regional. The Pirates take a 25-0 mark into the New Albany semi-state semi vs. fourth-ranked Evansville Central at Noon on Saturday.

In the 4A regional at Bedford North Lawrence, #11 Bloomington South bested East Central 49-23. The Trojans end the year at 12-12.

In boys hoops on Saturday, East Central knocked off Batesville 61-43 in St. Leon. The Trojans improve to 7-11 overall and 4-2 in the EIAC. The loss snaps the Bulldogs eight-game winning streak and drops their record to 12-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play. Batesville won the JV contest 48-35…It was Greensburg over Madison 74-64…South Dearborn dispatched Milan 83-52…and Seton Catholic tripped South Decatur 66-52.

Several area wrestlers advanced to next weekend’s IHSAA state wrestling finals after competing in Saturday’s semi-state at New Castle. Congratulations to East Central’s Jaxsin Prater and Brody Wingate, Kaleb Wilburn from Milan, plus Franklin County’s Cole Freese and Colin Troyer.
