
Congratulations to local players who were named to the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association (HBCA) All-District girls teams. Seniors honored in District 3 include Franklin County’s Ruby Singer; Aly Powers and Mary Harmon from Greensburg; Oldenburg Academy’s Rachel Suttman, and Kaiya Rinear from South Ripley. The HBCA District 3 Underclass team includes Batesville’s Maggie Jelinek and Kaylin Kathmann; East Central’s Natalie Stenger and Lilly Maple; Claire Larrison from Greensburg, and Oldenburg Academy’s Gina Grote.
St. Nicholas edged St. Louis 19-16 in 6th grade girls basketball last night on the Cardinals’ home court. St. Louis played hard on both ends but struggled with turnovers and defensive rebounding. Eleanor Spielmann led the Cardinals in scoring with six points. Grace Flaspohler, Edie Walke, Lesley Nunez, Sarah Durham and Halle Meyer each added two points. The Cardinals are back on the court tonight when they travel to Laurel .

The Indiana Hoosiers knocked off Oregon 92-74 in college basketball last night at Assembly Hall in Bloomington. Lamar Wilkerson went off for 41 points to lead the Hoosiers, who go to 17-8 overall and 8-6 in the Big Ten.
The Purdue Boilermakers dropped one spot to #13 in this week’s AP Top 25 men’s college basketball poll. They’ll be back on the court tonight at #7 Nebraska. Arizona remains #1 in the AP rankings, followed by Michigan, Houston, Duke and Iowa State to round out the top five.
Cincinnati Reds righthanded pitcher Graham Ashcraft won his arbitration case against the team. Ashcraft will receive $1.75 million in 2026; the ball club offered him 1-point-2-5 million. The 28-year-old Ashcraft had a breakout season last year after moving from the starting rotation to the bullpen. He went 8-5 and logged 65 1/3 innings with a 3.99 ERA in 62 appearances.
