South Ripley boys basketball returned to Tyson Auditorium after 17 years Saturday night at bested North Decatur 70-56 in a game heard on the Sports Voice. Blake Gunter led the Raiders with 25 points. Bryson Sipples added 13 and Eli Gilpin had 10. The Chargers Logan O’Dell tossed in a game-high 27 points. Teammate Owen Rennekamp added 14. South Ripley improves to 3-0 while North Decatur falls to 0-3…

Elsewhere, Lawrenceburg topped Franklin County 54-44. Carson Allen was top scorer for the Wildcats with 17 points. The Tigers Kaleb Cole led all scorers with 20. Whiteland tripped visiting East Central 72-62 in the Trojans season opener. And it was Tri over South Decatur 52-46.

In girls hoops action heard Saturday on the Sports Voice, Oldenburg downed South Decatur 63-31. The Twisters Rachel Suttman poured in a game-high 24 points. Teammate Gina Grote added 18. The Cougars were led by Raegan Benge’s 15 points. Elsewhere, Batesville held off Shelbyville 53-48; Jac-Cen-Del rolled over South Dearborn 56-35, and Greensburg went 1 and 1 at the Evansville North Tri-State Showcase. The Pirates fell to Hamilton Southeastern 47-40 and beat Gibson Southern 57-48 in the nightcap.

Congratulations to Milan wrestler Kayla Roell, who notched her 100th career win on Senior Night last week. Roell is Milan’s first female state wrestling champion and first girl grappler in program history to reach the 100-win mark.

Rodney Martin has stepped down as South Decatur head football. Martin coached the Cougars for 10 seasons split over two stints (2009-14 and 2022-25) and compiled a record of 43-56. He’ll continue serving as the school’s athletic director. School administrators have launched a search for a new football coach.

The Indiana Pacers take on the Sacramento Kings in NBA action tonight in downtown Indianapolis. WRBI coverage begins following Coaches Corner.

The Indiana Hoosiers are the #1 seed in the College Football Playoff after upsetting defending champ Ohio State 13-10 in the Big Ten Championship Saturday night in downtown Indy. IU improves to 13-0. The Buckeyes are the 2nd seed in the 12-team CFP field released Sunday. Georgia is seeded third followed by Texas Tech to round out the top four. Those teams will have first-round byes. Notre Dame was left out of the field in favor of Miami (Florida), and has decided to turn down any bowl game offers. First round games will be played December 19 and 20.

In NFL action yesterday, The Buffalo Bills rallied to beat the Cincinnati Bengals 39-34 in snowy western New York. The Bills outscored the Bengals 21-6 in the 4th quarter, which included a pair of interceptions thrown by Joe Burrow. One of those was returned 63 yards by Christian Benford for a touchdown. With the loss, the Bengals dip to 4-9…The Jacksonville Jaguars rolled over the Indianapolis Colts 36-19. Colts quarterback Daniel Jones went down in the first quarter with a non-contact injury to his right Achilles tendon which will likely end his season. Rookie Riley Leonard went the rest of the way. Indianapolis has lost three straight and four of its last five games, and is now in second place behind the Jaguars in the AFC South at 8-5.
