Jac-Cen-Del pulled out a tight 52–50 home win over North Decatur in girls basketball Tuesday night, a game broadcast on 103.9 FM and the WRBI App.
The Lady Eagles improved to 4–9 on the season, while North Decatur slipped to 4–11. The game remained close throughout, with Jac-Cen-Del making the key plays late to protect the lead. Brinley Simon led Jac-Cen-Del with 16 points, while Carmen Thackery also scored 16 to pace North Decatur.
Oldenburg Academy’s girls delivered a dominant road performance Tuesday afternoon at Waldron, rolling to a 49–13 nonconference victory.
The Twisters jumped out to a 20–4 first-quarter lead and carried a 29–6 advantage into halftime. Grace Fischer finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Emerson Lindsey added three assists as Oldenburg improved to 12–2. The Twisters limited Waldron to single-digit scoring in three of the four quarters and return to action Friday night with a 7:30 p.m. road game at Jac-Cen-Del.
Holiday tournament play continued this week at the Bob Wettig Tournament in Richmond, where Greensburg opened action Monday with wins over Phalen Academy and Indianapolis Washington to advance to the semifinal round. Tuesday, Greensburg fell 76–50 in the semifinal before closing the tournament with a 65–55 loss to Valparaiso in the third-place game.
In Vevay at the Switzerland County Holiday Tournament, Franklin County made a strong run before finishing as runner-up. The Wildcats advanced to the championship game before falling to Tri-West Hendricks 56–42 to close out the two-day event.
Batesville’s boys and girls swim teams continued midseason development Tuesday in a four-team meet at East Central against East Central, Connersville and Warren Central.
The sprint-heavy format emphasized short races, quick recovery and relay execution. Matthew Lambert led the Batesville boys with a win in the 50 freestyle and a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle. A scoring discrepancy involving Batesville’s A relay in the boys 200 freestyle relay is under review and could improve the Bulldogs’ final placement.
The Batesville girls turned in a balanced performance, with Alexis Schiller placing second in both the 50 and 100 breaststroke. Samantha Adams, Lexi Harris, Kate Fullenkamp and Grace Copley also contributed across individual and relay events. The meet served as an early preview of the EIAC Conference Championships, scheduled for Jan. 10 at East Central.
On the college football front, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman reaffirmed Tuesday that he is not pursuing NFL opportunities and will return for the 2026 season. Freeman said the Irish are not satisfied with simply being close after another double-digit win season that fell short of the College Football Playoff, pointing to returning leadership and a strong recruiting class as the foundation for the next step.
Indiana football continued preparations Tuesday at the Rose Bowl ahead of its College Football Playoff matchup with Alabama. Head coach Curt Cignetti said the focus remains on advancing rather than the pageantry surrounding the event. Indiana enters the game as a seven-point favorite, with kickoff scheduled for Thursday at 4 p.m. Eastern.
The Indianapolis Colts will start rookie Riley Leonard at quarterback in Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Houston Texans, according to ESPN. Leonard, a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame, replaces veteran Philip Rivers and will make his first career NFL start.
In college basketball, Butler stayed within striking distance Tuesday night in Omaha but came up short in an 89–85 loss to Creighton. The Bulldogs never led but cut the deficit to two in the closing seconds. Michael Ajayi led Butler with 16 points as Butler fell to 10–4.
The Indiana Pacers look to snap a nine-game losing streak tonight when they face the Orlando Magic. Indiana enters the matchup at 6–27 on the season, and the game can be heard on 103.9 FM and the WRBI App.
