Oldenburg Academy boys’ soccer blanked Union County 5-0 on the road last night. The Twisters take the rematch of last year’s sectional final. Conner Holder scored two goals for OA. Also finding the back of the net were Hayden Blair, Jacob Hilbert, and James Lattire. Zach Hoff and Henry Wanstrath shared time in the goal box and recorded the shutout.
Batesville 7th grade volleyball topped Greendale in two games. BMS’ Ella Peetz was a perfect 15 for 15 from the service line. The Bengals took the 8th grade contest in two games. Maci Smith served five points and had three kills for the Bulldogs.
South Decatur 7th grade volleyball topped St. Louis in two sets. Heidi Schneider led the Cardinals with nine ace points, and Kristen Obermeyer added six aces. The Cougars won the 8th grade contest in three sets. Natalie Kranz led the way for St. Louis with 11 points including eight aces.
It’s Week Two of the high school football season. Batesville travels to Milan for the Ripley County Bell Game. Kickoff at the Teepee has been moved to 7:30 because of the persistent extreme heat. TJ Friedl’s two-run single in the bottom of the 9th inning lifted the Reds over the Oakland A’s 10-9 last evening at Great American Ball Park, as Cincinnati salvages a win in the three-game series. The Reds came back from a 6-1 deficit in the fourth and led going into the ninth inning, but trailed 9-7 after Alexis Diaz blew the save opportunity. They battled back in the bottom of the 9th and Friedl’s hit through the right side of the infield won it for the Reds. Emilio Pagan gets the win in relief. The Reds open a four-game Labor Day weekend series today against the National League Central Division leading Milwaukee Brewers with a split double header. It’s part of a makeup from a rainout in April. You’ll hear game one this afternoon on 103.9 WRBI. Coverage begins following the Noon news block. First pitch for the nightcap is 7:15.
