Batesville boys varsity tennis fell at Columbus North 5-0 on Wednesday. The Bulldogs are now 4 and 2 and will host Centerville on Saturday morning. Columbus North also won in JV action, 4-0.
The Cincinnati Reds rallied from six runs down in the 9th inning to stun the San Francisco Giants 10-9 to avoid being swept in the series finale on the West Coast as heard yesterday afternoon on WRBI. Cincinnati scored seven times in the 9th; rookie Hector Rodriguez blasted a lead-off solo home run into McCovey Cove beyond the right field bleachers for his second longball of the game, and Eugenio Suarez clubbed a grand slam to right-center. A sacrifice fly by Jose Trevino tied the game, and pinch hitter Tyler Stephenson singled home the running run. Tony Santillan (2-4) got the win in relief. Emilio Pagan pitched a scoreless 9th to nail down his 17th save. It was the Reds biggest 9th inning comeback in nearly 70 years. The last time Cincinnati trailed by six or more runs in the 9th and came back to win was on May 8, 1958, against the Chicago Cubs. The Reds have today off before starting a three-game series on the North Side of Chicago against the Cubs tomorrow afternoon. Airtime is 1:50.
Meanwhile, the Reds placed Suarez and outfielder TJ Friedl on waivers, according to reports. The ballclub has not confirmed the move, which would allow MLB’s 29 other teams to claim either player during a 48-hour period before waivers expire.
The NFL is eliminating the Pro Bowl Games. Beginning with the upcoming 2026 season, the AFC vs. NFC game and other competitions will not be held, but players will still be selected as Pro Bowlers. They’ll be invited to an in-person celebration in Los Angeles during the traditional weekend the Pro Bowl games took place.
