The Los Angeles Angels knocked off the Cincinnati Reds 9-6 in a game heard yesterday on WRBI. Angels ace Jose Soriano limited the Reds to two hits while striking out 10 and walking none over seven innings to get the win and improve his record to 4-0 and shrink his ERA to 0.33. Andrew Abbott gave up eight hits and seven earned runs in three-plus innings and was pinned with the loss. He’s 0-2. Elly De La Cruz hit a two-run homer in the 9th inning to highlight the Reds offense for his fifth longball of the season. De La Cruz went 2-for-5 at the plate and drove in three runs. The Reds lose the series two games to one. They are now 8-7 on the year. After an off day, the Reds’ homestand continues with the first of three tomorrow night against the San Francisco Giants.
The Detroit Pistons topped the Indiana Pacers 133-121 in NBA action heard last evening on the Sports Voice. Quenton Jackson and Obi Toppin led Indiana with 21 points each. The Pacers finish the season at 19-63. The 19 wins is the lowest total in the franchise’s NBA history.
The Indiana Fever were busy during the WNBA free agency period over the weekend. The Fever re-signed All WNBA guard and three-time All Star Kelsey Mitchell to a one-year Super Max contract for $1.4 million. Mitchell becomes the Fever’s first $1 million player. Indiana also re-signed guards Sophie Cunningham and Lexie Hull, and inked a deal with unrestricted free agent veteran forward Monique Billings, who spent last year with Golden State, plus guard and Noblesville native Ty Harris, who comes to the Fever from Dallas.
Rory McElroy won his second consecutive Masters at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. McElroy joins Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods as the only golfers to win back-to-back green jackets.
