Batesville doubled up Connersville 8-4 in varsity baseball Thursday evening at the Dawg Pound. The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning, but the Bulldogs flipped the script in the bottom of the frame by scoring five runs on five hits. The key blow was Preston Blessing’s two-run double. Carson Meyer was the winning pitcher. He gave up five hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out eight and not walking a batter over five innings. Batesville will be back on the diamond tomorrow at New Palestine.

South Ripley got past visiting South Decatur 6-5 on a walk-off in the bottom of the 7th inning. It was the first varsity baseball game played on newly-refurbished Forest G. Waters Field.

Batesville swept visiting Greensburg in track and field. It was the Bulldog girls 113, the Pirates 17; BHS took the boys meet 82-50. Batesville won 26 out of 32 events, and 60 personal bests were broken.

The Miami Marlins knocked off the Cincinnati Reds 8-1 in a game heard yesterday on WRBI. Rhett Lowder gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings and was tagged with the loss. His record dips to 1-1. Sal Stewart homered for the second straight game in his hometown. Matt McLain and Spencer Steer both had two hits for the Reds, who were 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. The Reds finish the road trip at 5-2. They begin a six-game homestand with the first of three tonight against the Los Angeles Angels. Chase Burns gets the start for Cincinnati. He’s 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA. Airtime on 103.9 FM is 6:15 p.m.

The Indiana Pacers clobbered the Brooklyn Nets 123-94 in NBA action heard last night on the Sports Voice. Obi Toppin led Indiana with 26 points. The Pacers come home for the final two games of the season tonight when they host the Philadelphia 76ers. Tipoff in downtown Indianapolis is at 7:30.

The Indiana Fever have unveiled a first look inside their new $78 million training facility in downtown Indianapolis. At over 100,000 square feet, it will be the largest in the WNBA. The performance center features dual practice courts, a luxury recovery suite, and even a content studio. It’s set to open in time for the 2027 season.
