South Dearborn to host mock crash demonstration Monday

AURORA, IN — South Dearborn High School will host a mock crash demonstration on Monday, May 16.

The event will start with students in the school auditorium, where they will hear brief remarks by Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens and Sheriff Shane McHenry.

Students will be moved to the South Dearborn Middle School parking lot at 1 pm, where the mock crash scene will be staged.

The crash scenario will start at 1:05 pm involving Dearborn County Dispatch, police, fire, and EMS.

AirCare is scheduled to land at 1:10 pm.

The scenario is expected to wrap up at 1:20 pm, with Dearborn County Coroner Cameron McCreary scheduled to deliver remarks.

Students will be invited to tour the AirCare helicopter at 1:30 pm if the crew and the aircraft are not called to an emergency.

The purpose of the mock crash demonstration is to give students a startling look at the dangers of impaired or distracted driving.
