Skeletal remains found in West Harrison identified

(West Harrison, IN0 – The skeletal remains found Tuesday on Pinhook Road in West Harrison near the Whitewater River have been identified.

The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner say the remains are those of 53-year-old Virginia Pennington of Brookville.

Pennington and Hardy Harris were staying in a cabin on Wolf Creek in Franklin County on July 28 when they were swept away by flood waters.

Harris’ body was found the next day about three-quarters of a mile away from Wolf Creek.

Indiana Conservation Officers searched the area unsuccessfully for Pennington’s body.

Her remains were found this week by a property owner on the 1900 block of Pinhook Road – about 19 ½ miles from where she was swept away by the flood waters.

Dearborn County Sheriff Shane McHenry is commending the Hamilton County (Ohio) and Dearborn County Coroner’s offices in identifying the remains so quickly.

Dearborn County Coroner Cameron McCreary says they were able to do so based on a scientific comparison, which included medical records and X-rays.
