(Batesville, IN) – The Southeastern Indiana YMCA is preparing to embark on a major expansion and renovation of its Gray Gym and Wellness Center, adding 3,800 square feet of new wellness space for members to move, lift, stretch, and grow like never before.

This project marks the first phase in a multi-year plan to expand and reimagine the Y’s facilities to better serve the growing needs of the community.

With over 8,000 individuals visiting the facility annually for everything from swim lessons and youth basketball to guest workouts and wellness classes, YMCA leadership says the time is right for growth.

“This is really needed,” said YMCA CEO Tara Britton. “It’s not about our Y getting bigger just to flex—it’s about meeting the needs of the community, and we’re uniquely capable of delivering on that.”

Beginning December 1, Bruns-Gutzwiller Construction and Pulskamp’s Flooring will begin transforming the back half of the Gray Gym into an expanded wellness area featuring turf for functional fitness, more free weights, and new plate-loaded equipment, all connected to the former racquetball court through a new walkthrough.

Britton emphasized that members’ favorite activities will continue.

“Don’t worry,” she said. “The front half of the Gray Gym will keep two Pickleball courts and a half-court for basketball, and Thursday Night Volleyball will move to the Wood Gym.”

In addition, the current Wellness Center will receive a refresh with new flooring, additional treadmills, reorganized circuit equipment, and a welcoming beginner-friendly space.

Construction will continue through the holiday season, and the entire project is expected to be completed by mid-to-late January 2026. The Y will remain open throughout the renovation, ensuring members can continue exercising and connecting through the holidays.

“This is just the beginning,” Britton added. “As we look to the future, we’ll continue to reimagine our Y to strengthen community and serve every generation for years to come.”

The Southeastern Indiana YMCA invites members and the community to follow the project’s progress through its social media channels and at www.siymca.org.
