Indianapolis, IN – First oval race, first Indy 500, and now first P1 for both Robert Shwartzman and the PREMA racing team. With only 5 INDYCAR starts under his belt, Rookie Shwartzman made it to the coveted Pole Position after posting an average speed of 232.790 MPH during the ‘Firestone Fast Six’ shootout this evening.
Unfortunately, the day did not end on a positive note for all who attempted to qualified today. There were 4 cars vying for the last row, which meant someone was getting bumped. That ended up being Dale Coyne Racing’s Jacob Abel. After having to try to beat out Marco Andretti, Marcus Armstrong, and fellow teammate, Rinus VeeKay, he fell short and was bumped.
Drama always seems to follow the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, and today was no exception. After going through technical inspections, the two Penske cars that were to qualify in the Fast 12, driven by Will Power and Josef Newgarden, were pulled for failure to pass. So, they’ll be starting in positions 11 and 12 next Sunday.
