Shirley Mae Campbell, of Sunman, was born on May 25th, 1935, the cherished daughter of Raymond and Edna (Hoff) Lattire. A proud graduate of Sunman High School, she began her early career at the Sunman Canning Factory Naas Plant. On June 18, 1955, Shirley married her high school sweetheart, John Campbell, at St. John UCC in Penntown. Later that year, she began working at the National Lead of Ohio Fernald Plant, where she faithfully served for 40 years. Over the course of her career, she held numerous positions and ultimately became the Office Manager before her retirement in 1995. Together, she and John built a full and meaningful life, marked by deep dedication to Sunman and the surrounding communities. Their greatest joy was their beloved daughter, Julie. Shirley was a faithful member of Sunman Church of Christ for over 70 years. Retirement never suited Shirley for long, and she could always be found volunteering or working in some capacity. She concluded her professional life by serving as the Deputy Clerk in the Sunman Town Hall. She also played a vital role in establishing and researching the Sunman History and Museum, a project that brought her great pride. Family was the center of Shirley’s world. She treasured her time with her daughter and son-in-law, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Sunday lunches after church were a tradition she loved, as she attended every sport activity or event that her family—right down to her great-nieces and nephews—took part in. Shirley was an avid card player, especially fond of euchre, though she also enjoyed a spirited game of Phase 10 or Skip-Bo, which she played weekly with her niece. She was well known for her immaculate housekeeping—so meticulous that she often cleaned before the cleaning lady arrived! Her family affectionately joked that you could eat off the floors in her home.
On Thursday, December 11th, 2025, at the age of 90, Shirley passed away peacefully with family by her side at Aspen Place Health Campus in Greensburg. Shirley lived a life of dedication, service, and unwavering love for her family and community. She will be deeply missed by all who know her.
