Shirley E. McDaniel

Shirley E. McDaniel, age 73 of Batesville, formerly of North Judson, Indiana, died Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus, Indiana. Born December 11, 1949 in Starke County Indiana, she is the daughter of Elsie (Nee:  Saine) and Morris Fredrick Madsen.   Shirley was a homemaker and also worked as a waitress and bartender, before retiring.

Shirley was known as “Aunt Tub”, a nickname given to her by her nieces, nephews and friends.  Her happy demeanor was infectious and made the people that she was around feel good.  She never knew a stranger and could carry on a conversation with whomever she met and had the ability to make people laugh.  Her family said she was a very good cook and she light heartedly referred to herself as the “Great Messy Cook”.  She loved tending to her garden and enjoyed planting many varieties of flowers.  Music was also important to her.  She loved to dance and even entered Twist competitions which she frequently won. Shirley’s true passion though was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters Cheryl McDaniel of Princeton, Indiana, Shelby (John White) Hatfield of Lawrenceville, Illinois and Jamie (Todd) Nobbe of Batesville; sons Brad (Brooke) McDaniel of Bridgeport, Illinois and Michael (Suzie) McDaniel of Lawrenceville, Illinois; sisters Donna Smith of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, Elsie (Gary) Danekas of San Pierre, Indiana and Kathy (Bill) Schrag of Lacrosse, Indiana; brothers Kenneth Madsen of Plymouth, Indiana, Jim (Sherry) Madsen of North Judson, Indiana and George Madsen of Missouri; grandchildren Colt Davis, Seth and Luke Hatfield, Baylee, Paizlee, Alex, Tynleigh, Parker and Owen McDaniel, Alice and Avery Nobbe and Carmyn Moore; great-grandchildren Sebastian, Addison and Evalyn Davis.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Mae Fort; brothers Paul, Junior, Bobby Madsen and (Madsen) twins that died after birth; grandson John H. Davis III.

In accordance with Shirley’s wishes, cremation was chosen by the family.  A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15th at the Highland Cemetery in North Judson, Indiana, with burial following.  Braman & Bailey Funeral Home is assisting the family in North Judson.  Memorial contributions may be made to So Loved Kids Closet in Batesville, Indiana.
