Sherri Lynn Wanstrath, 62 of Batesville; Mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away after a long and valiant battle with Alzheimer’s.
Sherri’s long struggle with Alzheimer’s was well known by those who loved her, but what many may not know is that despite her illness, and every struggle she faced in life, she met the challenge head on.
Sherri was a talented artist, with handwriting as beautiful as her drawings. Being a child of the 70’s, Sherri loved to dance. She frequently made-up routines with her siblings growing up.
Sherri was an incredible cook, whose lasagna and mashed potatoes were legendary among family and friends. She loved decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas, and even made sure Santa was present for pictures on Christmas Eve each year.
Sherri was a lover of animals. She was incredibly passionate about her horses and golden retrievers alike. Sherri passed that love on to her three children who grew up showing horses. Her daughter even turned that love into a career by becoming a veterinarian.
Sherri’s three children were the light of her life. Greg, Meghan, and Matt kept her incredibly busy, and you’d rarely see her anywhere other than a practice, game, or horse show. She was consistently taking photos and kept many beautiful family memories from all vacations and life events. Even as her illness took hold and her memory faded, her love for her kids and family never dulled.
Sherri’s unwavering faith and immense love for the Catholic Church led her to start a World Mission Rosary Group. This gave her the incredible opportunity to distribute rosaries world-wide to strengthen the Catholic Faith.
Sherri is survived by her children, Greg Wanstrath of Bakersfield, CA, Meghan Wanstrath of Grafton, MA, and Matt Wanstrath of Batesville, IN; father of their children Jim Wanstrath of Batesville, IN; mother Carolyn Patton of Batesville, IN; sisters Shelly (Steve) Martin of Greensburg, IN, and Shouna (Chris) Muckerheide of Batesville, IN; step-mother Martha Patton of New Berry, FL; as well numerous nieces and nephews.
She was welcomed home into heaven by her brother Gary Patton and father Richard Patton as well as maternal grandparents Jesse and Bessie Stewart and paternal grandparents John “Jack” Patton and Dorothy Patton-Varanelli. She was also welcomed by her beloved dogs who left this world before her.
