(Aurora, IN) – The South Dearborn School Board has voted 6-1 to close Manchester Elementary School.
Rising operating costs and declining enrollment were among the primary reasons listed for shuttering the school.
The move is expected to save the corporation $1 million.
A number of residents voiced opposition to the closing, citing longer bus rides and wanting to keep kids in their communities.
Current teachers and staff have been promised jobs elsewhere within the South Dearborn School Corporation.
The board also voted to restructure South Dearborn Middle School to accept sixth through eighth grade students.
