Scott Barnhorst

 

 

Scott Barnhorst, age 60 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2023, at home surrounded by his family.  Scott was born in Batesville on June 1, 1963, to Clifford Barnhorst and Wilma (Mise) Barnhorst. Scott married Penny (Sarber) Barnhorst on June 17, 1989, at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg, IN. They raised two children.

He was a 1981 graduate of Batesville High School and a 1990 graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.  Later in life he graduated from Ashworth University with a degree in Security Management.

Scott spent 24 years of service as the Town Marshall for the town of Oldenburg. He was currently working as the leader of Global Security for Batesville Casket Company.  Scott enjoyed spending time sitting outdoors on the deck with his dogs. He loved cooking with his smoker and was famous for making his delicious pulled pork, brisket, and ribs.

Scott was a family man, who enjoyed spending as much time with his family as possible. He loved taking them on vacations, especially to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. Scott enjoyed driving and working on his Jeep Wrangler and enjoyed going to Pigeon Forge for the Smoky Mountain Jeep invasion every year. Scott was best known for his determination and ability to “get things done”. You could always count on him to help anybody in their time of need. If you had a problem, he was the one you wanted in your corner.

He is survived by his wife Penny of Batesville; son Michael Barnhorst of Batesville; daughter Amanda Barnhorst of Batesville; parents Cliff and Wilma Barnhorst of Batesville; sister Robin Eckstein of Batesville; brothers Donald (Carolyn) Barnhorst of Dover, Indiana, William Barnhorst of Greenfield, Indiana, and Randell (Tina) Barnhorst of Indianapolis, Indiana; numerous nieces and nephews and his three loving dogs Cooper, Jaxon, and Milton.

Visitation is Thursday, December 14th, from 4 – 7 p.m., at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 15th, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, with Fr. Suresh Ganta officiating.  The burial will follow at the church cemetery, with military graveside rites being conducted by the Ripley County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3183 and by the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 of Batesville.
