School officials investigating widespread illness in Fayette County

CONNERSVILLE, Ind. — School officials in Fayette County are investigating what caused several students and faculty to become sick.

More than 100 students and 10 staff members went home sick from Connersville Middle School on Friday.

School officials say they are working with the health department to determine the cause of the illness, but preliminary indications are that it appears to have been a viral illness.

The superintendent says there is no indication of the cause being food related.

Over the weekend crews sanitized the entire school and food service staff conducted a quality control review.

Parents were notified on Friday as soon as staff realized the number of students being sent home sick.
