Saturday girls sectional recaps from 4A-14, 2A-45 and 1A-60

The following are girls sectional recaps from Saturday, January 5.

4A-14 at Bloomington North (semifinals)

East Central was a 71-45 winner over Bloomington South.  The Trojans jumped out to an 18-5 lead after the first eight minutes.  For the game, the St. Leon ladies hit 80 percent from the floor on 24-of-30 shooting.  They also converted 81 percent from the line on a 17-of-21 effort.

For EC, Hope Fox had 25 points, four assists and three steals.  Laney Baker turned in 19 points, three dishes and three swipes while Josie Trabel carded 10 points, six rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

Columbus East beat Martinsville 70-48.  The Olympians had a nice lead of 18-8 after one quarter.  C-East only hit 36 percent from the floor but took 69 shots thanks in part to 18 offensive rebounds and 22 steals.

Leah Bachman bucketed 20 points for the O’s, Saige Stahl scored 18 and Koryn Greiwe had 12.  Bachman also had five rebounds and six steals while Stahl added 12 boards and eight takeaways to her stat line.

No. 11 East Central (21-4) takes on No. 8 Columbus East (19-3) at 7 pm Tuesday for the 4A-14 championship.  The winner will play No. 2 Franklin (25-1) in the first regional semifinal Saturday at Columbus North.

2A-45 at Southwestern Hanover (semifinals)

South Ripley defeated Milan 42-24.

Sarah and Rachel Meyer both posted 12 points while Emily Flood scored 10 to go along with four rebounds and four steals.  Gracie Gunter recorded a team-best five assists and chipped in three points.

Switzerland County was a 49-27 winner over Southwestern.

Ashley Fulton and Riley Scroggins both put in seven points for the Rebels.

Switzerland County (18-6) plays defending champion South Ripley (17-8) in the 2A-45 title game Tuesday at 7 pm.  The winner will take on either North Knox (19-6) or South Knox (15-10) in the second regional semifinal Saturday at Crawford County.

1A-60 at Waldron (quarterfinals)

Jac-Cen-Del downed Hauser 75-40.  The Eagles led 28-10 after the first quarter.

Jac had very balanced scoring with five players between 15 and nine points.  Jalee Rider had the 15, Reese Obendorf followed with 13, Aundrea Cullen carded 10 while both Annabelle Williams and Desiree Sparks scored nine each.

Williams logged 11 rebounds, seven assists and three steals.  Both Rider and Emma Newhart had a half-dozen boards each.

Morristown beat Southwestern Shelby 51-42 in the other quarter.  Reagan Kleine and Neveah Sanders both scored 13.  Gracie Laster had 11.  Both Danika Rutledge and Maggie Lutes pulled down eight rebounds.
