S. Ripley Wins Centerville Tourney

CENTERVILLE, Ind. — South Ripley delivered a dominant two-day performance to capture the Centerville Holiday Tournament championship, winning three games by a combined 70 points on Dec. 26 and 27.

South Ripley opened the tournament with a 67-36 victory over Randolph Southern. Kaiya Rinear led the scoring with 20 points, while Claire Samples added 16 as South Ripley built an early lead and controlled the game on both ends of the floor.

Later that day, South Ripley advanced to the championship game with a 55-43 win over Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian. Rinear scored a game-high 23 points, and Samples contributed 20 as South Ripley used balanced offense and consistent defense to pull away in the second half.

In the championship game on Dec. 27, South Ripley completed the sweep with a 60-33 victory over Edinburgh. Samples led all scorers with 23 points, and Rinear added 11 as South Ripley again limited its opponent to 33 points.

The tournament also marked several career milestones. Senior Kaiya Rinear surpassed 1,100 career points. Claire Samples moved past 600 career points and 300 career rebounds, and Emily Parks reached her first scoring milestone while eclipsing 100 career assists.

With the tournament title, South Ripley improved to 11-3 on the season.

The team will face Madison next before turning its focus to defending back-to-back Ripley County championships the following week.
