Rosella H. Hornberger


Rosella H. Hornberger, of Sunman, was born on July 4, 1922 in Batesville, the daughter of Jesse and Alma M. Walter Hoff. She married Clarence Hornberger on June 14, 1941 in Harrison, Ohio. Rosella kept busy as a homemaker and the bookkeeper for Hornberger Plastering. She had many hobbies, including flower and vegetable gardening and canning, but her favorite was bowling. Rosella was part of the “Wednesday Afternoon Housewives” bowling league in Batesville – even later in life she spoke fondly of bowling and how she wanted to get back to it. Rosella was a member of St. Jacob’s UCC and played the organ there many years. She was also a member of the St. Leon Legion Ladies Auxiliary. On Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at the age of 95, Rosella passed away at Margaret Mary Health in Batesville.

Those surviving who will cherish Rosella’s memory include her children, Carolyn (Donald) Richter of Sunman, Rick (Joy) Hornberger of Batesville, David (June) Hornberger of Waxhaw, NC, and Tim (Beverly) Hornberger of Sunman; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 2 great, great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Violet Gunter of Batesville. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence and one sister, Betty Jobst.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman. Pastor Lynne Busch-Rae will officiate the service and burial will follow in St. Jacob’s Cemetery – Blue Creek.
